| THE WEBMASTER'S CORNER
Doing Business on Facebook - Should You? One of the links we provide under the Good Reading section at SiteSensations.com takes you to an article at Mashable.com, a social media guide, that shows you 30+ Apps for Doing Business on Facebook to help your site utilize the power of social networking on the Web. Like networking on a local level with chambers of commerce or professional organizations that sponsor monthly business luncheons or mixers, extend your company's reach into the Internet's social network to introduce your products or services to millions of new potential customers. If you haven't experimented with some of the social networking sites like LinkedIn, Facebook or Newsvine we suggest sticking your thumb into that pie to see what kind of boost they might provide to your business. Set up accounts to learn how they work, then just observe (it's called "lurking" on the net) the nature of the communication for a week or two until you get the gist of the game. Our only caution is this: make sure you understand how these sites work so that you don't break any unspoken rules against flagrant promotion of your self or your business. On some of these sites the operative word is: subtle. Know how to be it and use it to your advantage by always offering something worthwhile to other members of the network besides a hard sales pitch. In the end, focus on having fun because that's the kind of energy that draws people to you and your business. |

| WEBSITE OF THE MONTH
Our favorite site this month is: www.Delicious.com. No, it's not a food, recipe or cooking site. It's one of the coolest sites online, especially if you travel and wish to use your bookmarked or "favorite" sites that you've been feverishly stockpiling in your computer's browser for years but you don't want to take your computer with you. Delicious is a social networking site like those we mentioned above in our main article. It's called a "social bookmarking" site because you can create a "delicious" page to keep all of your favorite bookmarks within easy reach, share them with other members of Delicious.com and they can share theirs with you. If you want to learn about some of the coolest sites on the Web, Delicious is a great way to find obscure and new sites. Delicious.com is easy to use and provides a great way to use your bookmarks even when you are away from your home or business computer, or if you don't want to mess around with duplicating your bookmarks on both systems. All you need is an Internet connection and a browser to create and visit your delicious.com page and, voila, you have all your favorite sites at your fingertips. And best of all, it's a free service. Need we say more? We hope this issue of Site Savvy has helped, ![]() COMING IN OUR MAY ISSUE: What is “Cloud Computing” and is it for you? |
